How this test works
Change speed and contrast while watching the trail behind a moving object.
- Prepare the display using the checklist below.
- Select Start test and allow fullscreen mode if your browser asks.
- Use the arrow keys, on-screen controls, or click the pattern to move through the test.
- Exit the runner and save a local observation if useful.
Before you begin
- Set the display to its normal refresh rate
- Keep browser zoom at 100%
- Try the monitor's response-time settings one at a time
What to look for
- Dark or bright trails
- Inverse ghosting halos
- Smearing on dark backgrounds
Important: A visual browser test cannot produce a reliable millisecond response-time measurement. Use it to compare settings on the same setup.

Does this measure milliseconds?
No. Measuring pixel response time accurately requires controlled equipment such as a photodiode and oscilloscope.
What is inverse ghosting?
Aggressive overdrive can overshoot the target shade and create a bright or dark halo around motion.
Which overdrive mode is best?
Use the lowest setting that improves clarity without introducing obvious overshoot across your typical refresh-rate range.
