How this test works
Use black and near-black fields in a dim room while viewing the screen from your normal position.
- Prepare the display using the checklist below.
- Select Start test and allow fullscreen mode if your browser asks.
- Use the arrow keys, on-screen controls, or click the pattern to move through the test.
- Exit the runner and save a local observation if useful.
Before you begin
- Dim the room
- Use a normal brightness setting
- Wait for the display to warm up
What to look for
- Bright patches near edges or corners
- Cloud-like uneven areas
- Changes caused by viewing angle
Important: Camera exposure can greatly exaggerate bleed and IPS glow. Judge the display with your eyes from a normal position.
Frequently asked questions
Is backlight bleed the same as IPS glow?
No. Bleed is light leakage near edges, while IPS glow changes more strongly with viewing angle.
Should I photograph the screen?
A photo can document location, but automatic exposure often makes the issue look much worse than it appears.
Do OLED screens have backlight bleed?
No. OLED pixels emit their own light and do not use an LCD backlight.
